MOTO2 PROJECT GATHERS MOMENTUM FOR FTR MOTO

FTR MOTO will this month unveil its prototype Moto2 Grand Prix machine with the M209 expected to make its race debut early next month in the CEV Spanish Championship event at the Montmelo circuit near Barcelona.

Having produced a wide range of Grand Prix racing machinery in the past, FTR Moto has utilised that experience to design and build a machine that is versatile, fully adjustable and is already receiving considerable interest from prospective Moto2 World Championship teams.

The FTR Moto design team have also worked closely with the FIM Grand Prix technical experts to ensure the M209 features precise dimensions for the new, Honda-based Moto2 engine.

“We’re excited that the prototype M209 will be in the public domain very soon,” said FTR director Steve Bones. “We could have produced a machine earlier but we wanted to be as close as possible to being fully ready for the 2010 Moto2 implementation into Grand Prix and Spanish Championship.”

The M209 will feature an engine prepared by the Joe Darcey Team, one of the leading Spanish Supersport Championship teams, and is expected to be displayed at the Albacete fourth round of the Spanish series, on September 25-27.

Prior to leaving for Spain the machine will be unveiled to the media in the UK and will also undergo shakedown tests near the FTR Moto headquarters in Buckingham.

Bones continued: “In the Joe Darcey Team we have an experienced partner that can take the M209 to the next stage of its development. As a chassis constructor we are keen to develop but we also believe that this initial prototype machine will be competitive immediately.

“There have been further, minor changes to the Grand Prix engine regulations in recent weeks and we wanted to ensure we were as up to date as possible and for the first prototype to be as competitive as possible.”
