| FTR MOTO OVERWHELMED BY MOTO2 INTEREST |
| Grand Prix teams association IRTA received applications from 47 teams – representing a total of 91 riders – prior to last Friday’s closing date and FTR Moto has received similar interest from teams wishing to use its purpose-built, Moto2 rolling chassis. “With a new project and a new series it’s always going to be difficult to know what response you may get but Moto2 has really captured the imagination and we have some very serious racing teams keen to work with us in the new category,” said FTR Moto director Steve Bones. The Moto2 class will replace the 250cc World Championship from 2011 with 2010 aimed at being an introductory year with both 250cc two-strokes and the new, 600cc four-strokes competing together. Additionally, Moto2 machines will race for the remainder of 2009 in the Spanish Championship, starting with this Sunday’s second round at Jerez. “The Moto2 momentum is certainly building and we’re really excited at the prospects of the new technology that will arise from the new class,” added Bones. “We’ve had lots of customers already speculating about national championships being established in other countries so the format and combination of a bespoke rolling chassis with a regulated engine seems to be popular. ”FTR Moto is well advanced in its build of two initial prototypes and is expected to announce its test and 2009 race schedule shortly. The base, customer FTR Moto2 machine will be fitted with Marchesini wheels, Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes and Dunlop tyres. Bones concluded: “Many of the 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP teams we supply already are all looking at Moto2 and it’s encouraging that so many teams want to be a part of Moto2.” |
