FTR MOTO CONTINUES EMERGENCE WITH MUGELLO POLE POSITION
FTR MOTO’s new M210 Moto2 machine will sit at the head of the grid in this afternoon’s World Championship round at Mugello in Italy after the Fimmco Speed Up Team’s Andrea Iannone recorded the fastest lap in yesterday afternoon’s qualifying session.

Iannone’s team-mate Gabor Talmacsi will start from seventh on the grid. The Hungarian was looking to challenge Iannone for pole position when he crashed with three minutes to go in the session. Talmacsi escaped injury.

Alex Debon – second in the opening race in Qatar – qualified in 15th place, 1.1s behind Iannone, while FTR newcomer Karel Abraham continued his progression – in his second outing with FTR – by taking 20th place on the 41-strong grid. Abraham is just 1.2s behind Iannone.

“To see the FTR machine on pole position is fantastic,” said FTR’s Steve Bones. “We got our first podium finish in the opening round in Qatar, we’ve managed to get a pole position as early as round four so I suppose it’s just a case of recording a first win now!”

FTR’s racing activities continue to expand and on Wednesday night last week young Isle of Man TT rider Olie Linsdell gave the FTR Moto2 machine its first ever 120mph lap of the infamous 37.73-mile TT Mountain course.

Linsdell will race the machine in the six-lap Senior TT next Friday, June 11, and will enjoy two more practice laps on Wednesday as he looks to improve on his 121.281mph lap of last week.

In Spain, Kev Coghlan is hoping to move the Monlau Competicion Team FTR Moto2 machine to the top of the CEV Buckler Spanish Championship next weekend at Jerez in round three.

Coghlan began the year with sixth place at the Catalunya circuit then followed that with a first victory of the year at Albacete in round two. Coghlan and the Monlau Team have also been awarded the wild card place for the Silverstone Moto2 World Championship round on June 18-20.

“It’s a crazy time at the moment but exciting too,” said Bones. “We’ve got Moto2 machines in action all over the place and we’re really pleased with the teams and riders we’re working with, they all have the potential to succeed.”

Ends.
